Enable Developer Mode under Settings → Apps, create a new app with OAuth authentication using the server URL, and disable OIDC under Advanced Settings.

Frequently asked questions

ChatGPT currently adds custom MCP apps through Developer Mode — it's a one-time toggle in Settings → Apps, not a developer account. Once the app is created, using it is a normal + selection in chat.

Octolens uses standard OAuth rather than OIDC for the MCP connection, so that box needs to be unchecked under the app's Advanced Settings. Everything else is default.

Octolens only serves your data to the client you connected, under your OAuth grant. How ChatGPT handles conversation data is governed by your OpenAI settings and plan — the connection itself adds no extra data sharing.
